Behavior Intervention Services (BHIS)

How Can Behavioral Intervention Services Help?  Access to services begins with a behavioral health assessment The assessment will help determine if remedial services would be beneficial to the child and family. The cost of an assessment is paid for through the Iowa Plan which is part of Medicaid.  The assessment results will be explain and discussed, and services may be recommend.  Assistance will be provided to help the child and family in finding a BHIS service provider.

Children and Adolescent

• Remedial services are designed to meet the multiple and changing needs of youth with mental health needs such as ADHD, Adjustment Disorder, Disruptive Behavior Disorder, or other diagnoses.  Providers of Remedial Services assist youth in learning age appropriate ways to manage their behavior or regain self control.  The skill instruction may include:
• conflict resolution
• problem solving
• interpersonal skills
• social skills
• communication skills

Services can also include crisis intervention designed to deescalate volatile situations which involves the youth’s struggle to manage his/her mental health symptoms.  Family assistance includes education and support in coping with the youth’s mental health symptoms and management of the youth’s behaviors.
